Abstract

Fabrication Laboratory (fablab) adalah ruang dengan seperangkat alat digital fabrikasi standar yang memberi masyarakat kemampuan untuk membuat prototype dan produk sendiri. Beberapa penelitian menunjukkan tingginya keterkaitan antara fablab dengan pengembangan ide pembuatan produk yang dapat diperjualbelikan. Meski telah banyak penelitian dalam integrasi fablab dalam pembelajaran, serta potensi dalam membangun jiwa wirausaha, pengetahuan fablab, khususnya di Indonesia masih perlu dilakukan diseminasi, salah satunya melalui kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM). Adapun tujuan dari PkM ini adalah memberi wawasan, pengalaman penggunaan terhadap alat fablab, sehingga peserta memiliki gambaran dalam pengembangan prototyping produk dengan nilai jual. Kegiatan PkM dilakukan terhadap mahasiswa tingkat 2 dan 3 di ruang fablab edu, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) selama 2 hari dengan menekankan pada pembelajaran penggunaan alat 3D printer dan laser cutter, serta brainstorming pengembangan ide pembuatan prototype barang yang unik, serta berpotensi bernilai jual. Hasil kegiatan memperlihatkan 71,4% peserta workshop fablab sangat setuju bahwa fablab dapat memberikan fasilitas lengkap dalam membuat prototype/produk dengan potensi nilai jual; dan lebih dari 60% sangat setuju bahwa workshop fablab membantu dalam mengembangkan ide, kemampuan berpikir kritis, serta kreatif. Lebih lanjut terhadap hasil pengamatan pasca kegitan, diperoleh informasi bahwa jika diadakan workshop fablab kembali, 100% mahasiswa akan mendaftar dan mengikuti kegiatan workshop.

Fabrication Laboratory (fablab) is a space with a set of standard digital fabrication tools which provide ability to create almost everything. Several studies have shown a strong correlation between fablab and the development of ideas for making marketable products. Although there has been a lot of research on the integration of fablab in learning, as well as its potential to foster an entrepreneurial spirit, fablab knowledge, particularly in Indonesia, still requires wider dissemination. One approach to achieve this is through community service (PkM) activities. The purpose of this community service is to provide insight and hands-on experience in using fablab equipments, enabling participants to develop the prototype of products with commercial value. Community service activities were carried out for second and third year students at the fablab education room (fablab edu) UPI. The activities were held for 2 days emphasizing training on the use of 3D printers and laser cutters, followed by brainstorming session to develop ideas for unique, marketable prototypes. The results of the activity showed that 71.4% of the workshop participants strongly agreed that fablab provides complete facilities in making prototypes/products with commercial potential. Furthermore, over 60% strongly agreed that the fablab workshop assisted on developing ideas, critical thinking skills, and creativity. Post-activity observations revealed that if the fablab workshop were held again, 100% of university students would register and participate.
