Artificial Intelligence Policy
Policy on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies
The Jurnal EurekaMatika (JEM) recognizes the rapid development of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scholarly research. These policies aim to ensure transparency, integrity, and responsible use of AI tools in the research and publication process. This policy aligns with the Generative AI policy issued by Elsevier. JEM will continue to monitor technological developments and may revise this policy as necessary.
For Authors
Authors may use AI tools to assist in manuscript preparation, such as improving language clarity, organizing content, or summarizing literature. However, AI tools must not replace human critical thinking, scholarly judgment, or original scientific contributions. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their work.
- Authors must carefully review and verify all AI-generated content.
- AI-generated text must be edited to reflect the author's original analysis and interpretation.
- The use of AI tools must be transparently disclosed in an AI declaration statement upon submission.
- Authors must ensure compliance with data privacy, intellectual property, and ethical standards.
Responsible Use of AI Tools
Authors should ensure that any AI tool used maintains the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts and research data. AI-generated references, factual information, and interpretations must be carefully verified to avoid inaccuracies or bias.
Authorship
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship implies responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, and approval of the manuscript, which can only be fulfilled by human researchers.
AI Use in Images and Figures
The use of generative AI to create or modify figures, images, or artwork in submitted manuscripts is not permitted. Minor adjustments such as brightness or contrast are acceptable if they do not alter the scientific meaning of the image. If AI tools are used as part of the research methodology, this must be clearly described in the methods section.
For Reviewers
Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not upload manuscripts or review reports to AI tools, as doing so may violate confidentiality, intellectual property rights, or data privacy regulations. Peer review requires independent human evaluation and critical judgment.
For Editors
Editors must also maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and editorial communications. AI tools should not be used to evaluate manuscripts or make editorial decisions. Editors remain fully responsible for the integrity of the editorial process and the final decision on submitted manuscripts.
AI Use in the Publication Process
JEM may use AI-assisted technologies during the publication process to support technical checks, plagiarism detection, reviewer identification, and copyediting support. These tools comply with responsible AI principles and strict data privacy standards. Human oversight remains central to all editorial and publication decisions.
