Abstract

Pine wood shavings are waste from the process of cutting pine trees to produce pine resin. The abundant pine wood shavings are simply left unused and have not been utilized optimally. One effort to utilize pine wood shavings is to use them as raw materials for c-dots synthesis. C-dots are a type of nanomaterial that has a size of <10 nm and has a strong fluorescence intensity. The fluorescence intensity of c-dots can be increased by adding nitrogen doping taken from urea. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding urea as a nitrogen doping on the characteristics of c-dots produced using the microwave method. The results of c-dots synthesis in this study showed that the resulting c-dots have physical properties of yellow to brownish and light blue fluorescence color, have a maximum wavelength of 327-353 nm, and contain hydroxyl (O-H), amine (C≡N), core (C=C), and alkane (C-H) functional groups.
