        Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students' cognitive abilities, static fluid material for class VIII of SMP Negeri 63 Central Maluku which is taught by applying a guided inquiry learning model. This type of research is one group pretest-posttest, with 15 students as research samples. The data of this study were collected through test and non-test instruments, the test instruments were in the form of initial tests and final tests, while the non-test instruments were in the form of Student Worksheets (LKPD). The results of the study showed that 100% of the initial abilities were with a failing qualification. Students were in the failing qualification with an average score of 24.85. The results of the analysis during the learning process showed that the average student score was 87.50, which was in a very good qualification. The average student's final test achievement score reached 83.55 with a good qualification. For the N-Gain Test results, the average student score was 0.78, which was in a moderate qualification. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the guided inquiry model assisted by simple teaching aids to improve the cognitive abilities of static fluid material in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 63 Central Maluku is good.
